Public transport and parking

Location of the Melbourne Campus

The Melbourne Campus is situated in the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Bundoora, at the intersection of Plenty Road and Kingsbury Drive, 14 km from the city centre (Melway street directory reference: 19 G7).

Maps

Free pocket-size Travel Smart Access Maps are available from the Union Services Centre on the second level of the Agora. Access Maps also show the various walking, cycling and public transport routes to and from the campus.

Maps for people with disabilities are available which show the location of accessible pathways, lifts, suitable parking areas and building access points. These maps are available from the Equality and Diversity Centre on Level One, Peribolos East, Bundoora.

Public Transport

La Trobe University borders Zone 1 and 2 and can be accessed using either a Zone 1 or 2 Metcard or myki depending on which service you are arriving on.

Travelling by Train

La Trobe University lies between the Epping and Hurstbridge train lines. Bus connections operate from Reservoir (Bus 561, Zone 1 or 2), Heidelberg (Bus 551, Zone 1 or 2) and Macleod (Bus 561, Zone 2). If travelling on the Upfield train line a bus connection operates from Coburg Station (Bus 561, zone 1).

From the CBD, you should catch either the Epping or Hurstbridge line from any City Loop station and get off at Reservoir or Heidelberg and take a connecting bus. Bicycles travel for free on trains. Travelling by Bus

Nine public bus services travel to La Trobe University daily. Frequent bus services connect La Trobe to Heidelberg, Macleod, Reservoir, Coburg, Northland, Thornbury, Northcote, Ivanhoe and Kew, Clifton Hill, Collingwood, Richmond, South Yarra and the CBD. Travelling by Tram

Tram 86 runs directly from the Harbour Esplanade in Docklands (near the Telstra Dome), along Bourke St, via Southern Cross (previously Spencer Street) Station, through the city, up Smith Street in Collingwood, through Clifton Hill, up High Street through Northcote and Preston. From there it turns right up Plenty Road, stopping at the La Trobe University Medical Centre, and continues on to RMIT Bundoora Campus. Travel time to La Trobe University from the City (or the reverse) is around 45 mins to one hour depending on traffic. Application Software

There are a number of apps available for smartphone users that provide reliable public transport information. These apps can help make public transport more accessible and help you manage wait times until the next service. Keep an eye out for information on TramTracker screens to be installed throughout the campus.

Nightrider Bus

NightRider 958 (Eltham) runs via La Trobe University every 30 minutes between 1.30 a.m. and 4.30 a.m. on Saturdays and 1.30 a.m. - 5.30 a.m. on Sundays. Timetables and maps are available on www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/timetables/nightrider/

Campus Courtesy Bus

A circular campus bus service operates every half hour between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. Monday to Sunday. A timetable and map is available from: www.latrobe.edu.au/io/parking/courtesy-bus

An after-hours service is also available to escort students/staff from the library to car parks, residences and the tram stop.

Car parking

All vehicles (other than motor cycles) parked at the University between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Monday to Friday must display a current parking permit or daily vending machine ticket Parking permits are purchased from the Traffic and Parking office while daily tickets can be purchased from vending machines located in most of the car parks. Carpooling

A carpool service exists for car-owners and people seeking rides. When carpooling, members are entitled to a permit that guarantees them a space in the carpool car park. It’s a great way to meet new people and share the cost of getting to the University. More information available from: www.latrobe.edu.au/carpool/

Disabled parking

Spaces for disabled drivers are available in most of the car parks closest to the University buildings. Car parks one and eight also have a number of disabled bays. Visit the Traffic and Parking office for further information.

Cycling

Cycling is a less expensive and more practical way for students to travel short distances to campus. It is also a great way to keep fit and avoid waits for public transport. Information on cycle routes to and from the campus is available within the TravelSmart Access Maps.

La Trobe boasts a state-of-the-art bicycle facility, known as the CycleSmart Centre. It is located on the eastern end of the Humanities 3 building and has secure storage for 50 bikes, change rooms, lockers and showers. This is a free service to all La Trobe students and staff.

There is currently parking for 550 bikes on campus as well as approximately 150 bike lockers on campus available for hire. Keys are available from the Union Administration Office on the first day of semester each year.

The Union Building and the Sports Centre have free showers in the main male and female toilets. Free towels and soap for the Union showers are available from the Union Administration Office on presentation of your student card.
