Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Business (LZLB) – Melbourne (Bundoora)

The Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Business is a five-year combined degree at Melbourne (Bundoora) campus providing an accredited professional qualification in law as well as a degree in business. The program includes all the compulsory law subjects required by the Council of Legal Education for admission to practice in Victoria and a wide range of law electives, including subjects complementary to business such as banking and finance law, income taxation law and international business law. Students can complete a business major in business economics, financial management, financial planning, human resource management, macroeconomics, management information systems, management or marketing. Alternatively they can complete two 4-subject minors from a wide range of business disciplines. The course is also available at Bendigo campus, but students commencing their studies at Bendigo transfer to Melbourne (Bundoora) after two full-time years of study where they complete the remainder of their course.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements are VCE units 1 and 2 of one of general mathematics or mathematical methods, and VCE units 3 and 4 of English, with a study score of at 35 in English (ESL) or 30 in any other English.

Degree requirements

Students must:

  • complete a total of at least five years of full-time study or equivalent;
  • complete in sequence the compulsory law subjects;
  • complete in sequence the compulsory business subjects;
  • complete a total of 645 credit points (375 credit points in law and 270 credit points in business) and other subjects from the School of Accounting, School of Economics and Finance, and/or School of Management;
  • complete a total of 22 subjects in law (15 compulsory subjects and 7 electives);
  • complete a total of 18 subjects in business (8 1st year core subjects, 1 2nd year core subject and either one major in a business discipline or two minors in a business discipline, plus 1 or 2 electives from the School of Accounting, School of Economics and Finance, or School of Management);
  • may in lieu of 15 credit points of Business electives complete 15 credit points in another free elective with the permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Law at Melbourne (Bundoora) in consultation with the Head of the School of Management at Melbourne (Bundoora).
  • complete no more than 180 credit points at first year level overall;

Note - a major consists of 7 prescribed subjects – usually 3 at 2nd year and 4 at 3rd year. A minor consists of 4 subjects – usually 2 at 2nd year and 2 at 3rd year.
