Courses and programs offered
Bachelor of Laws electives
In order to provide a variety of areas for study, the school offers a range of elective law subjects, with a LAW code. However, it is not possible to offer all of these subjects every year. Certain subjects will therefore only be available every second year, subject to sufficient enrolments. Usually those subjects that are not available in 2010 will be offered in 2011. . Some electives are offered in summer and winter school and these are normally taught in block release mode (5-day intensives).
Law electives are normally only available to undergraduate students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws or relevant combined degree program. However, a limited number of Bachelor of Laws electives are open to non-Bachelor of Laws students. These subjects attract a Level 3 HECS banding. Please see further entries below for eligibility and lists of approved subjects. Legal studies subjects are not available to Bachelor of Laws students as law electives.
Subject to prerequisites and quota, law students may also take up to four of the subjects offered in the Master of Laws in Global Business Law as law electives and may receive advanced standing for two of these subjects should they later enrol in a Master of Laws coursework program at Melbourne (Bundoora). These subjects are usually offered in summer or winter school in block release mode. In 2010, approximately twelve to fourteen subjects will be available in this way. Alternatively, final year law students may enrol in the public interest law subjects offered within the Master of Laws with the permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies. For further information, refer to the Postgraduate Handbook.
