Dentistry and Oral Health
Bachelor of Oral Health Science – Bendigo (HBOHSB)
The Bachelor of Oral Health Science will qualify students to register as dental hygienists and dental therapists. The course will have a strong focus on public oral health in rural and regional Victoria.
Students will undertake a number of subjects in common with health science students. Specific oral health and health science subjects are taught in the first two years to help underpin the theoretical and clinical practice of oral health. Students will be required to complete pre-clinical and clinical oral health subjects over the six semesters of the course. Clinical Practice E will be run in the summer semester. Students will gain clinical experience working with a variety of patients, primarily in public health settings in rural areas.
There are a number of costs inherent in the course and students will be required to purchase items of equipment. These items and associated costs may include and are not limited to:
- protective clothing and uniform - $150
- books - $400 per semester
- instruments and equipment - $4,000
Please note that all costs are approximate.
All students will need to comply with credentialing requirements of clinical placement sites and this will include a police check, Working With Children check, vaccination requirements and registration with the Dental Practice Board of Victoria as a student. Students will also be required to comply with the Dental Practice Board of Victoria’s policy, Registration of dental students with an incapacity Policy No: P010 [2007] (PDF 121KB), in particular, with reference to blood-borne viruses.
