Bachelor of Education – Bendigo (RBED)
Bachelor of Education – Mildura (RBEDM)

The course is a four-year full-time program. It consists of 480 credit points of study. Subjects are categorised as Foundation Studies, Teaching Studies, Curriculum Studies, Professional Studies, Discipline Studies and Electives. Practicum and Field Experience programs provide essential classroom experiences that contextualise the theoretical components of Teaching, Curriculum and Professional Studies. All students, by the end of the course, must have demonstrated the ability to meet the professional expectations for a beginning teacher. Possible strands are:

  • Prep to Year 6
  • Middle Years Prep to Year 10
  • Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
  • Special Education
  • Catholic Education
  • Prep to Year 6 Honours.

Professional recognition

The course is recognised by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Graduates from the course are eligible for employment in government, Catholic and independent schools in Victoria, other Australian states or overseas. Graduates may also pursue a range of careers in the human services and training sectors.

Admission requirements

Applicants must satisfy the University’s normal entrance requirements, including a study score of at least 25 in Units 3 and 4 of English and two Units of Mathematical Methods or General Mathematics. Applicants who have a study score of at least 20 in a LOTE will be deemed to have an aggregate score 3.0 points higher.

A special entry provision exists for Aboriginal applicants. Applicants should, in the first instance, consult the Coordinator of the Aboriginal Tertiary Support Unit.

Working with children check

The Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development require a satisfactory criminal record check for all teacher education students undertaking practicum requirements in Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development schools. It is expected that equivalent requirements will exist for all other Victorian schools. Prior to commencing the course, students will be required to complete a ‘Working With Children Check’ form available at Australia Post offices. Students must provide a certified copy of their valid ‘Working With Children’ card prior to undertaking teaching placements. Confirmation of a criminal record may jeopardise a student’s ability to gain access to a suitable, or any, practicum placement(s) and may therefore delay or prevent completion of the course.
