Bachelor of Arts (HUSBAW)

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers the Bachelor of Arts at the University Drive, Wodonga campus. This course involves completion of subjects giving a total of 360 credit points, normally over three years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent. Subjects from several different disciplines are offered by the faculty. These are currently: English, history, philosophy, politics, social sciences and sociology. Students may take a limited number of subjects from disciplines outside the faculty including business, education, environmental management and ecology, psychology and social welfare. Course requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Arts, students must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 360 credit points, with at least 120 credit points at third year level and include in their course at least one core major. The core majors available at Albury/Wodonga are English, history and sociology. Students may also complete a sub-major (110 credit points) in politics. The Faculty also offers a number of elective subjects from additional disciplines e.g. art history, drama, philosophy etc.

Single Major (130 credit points)

A major consists of 130 credit points in a discipline, and must include the following:

  • 30 credit points at first year level (including a first-year core subject),
  • 40 credit points at second-year level (including a second-year core subject) and,
  • 60 credit points at third-year level (including a third-year core subject)

Double major (260 credit points)

Students can complete a double major within the BA which consists of 130 credit points in each of two different disciplines. The structure is the same as the structure for a single major but students must complete the structure for two different disciplines.

The subjects chosen should be such that:

  • there are no more than 135 credit points of subjects at first-year level
  • there are no more than 30 credit points in any area in first year, and
  • no more than two subjects at each year level are taken from subjects offered outside the faculty.

On completing the course of study, which would lead to the award of the Bachelor of Arts, students may be eligible for entry into the program for the Bachelor of Arts with Honours.
