Master of Biotechnology and Master of Business Administration – Melbourne (Bundoora) (SZBTBA)

The two year (four semesters) Master of Biotechnology and Master of Business Administration aims to provide full fee-paying students with two masters degrees without the requirement for a major research component. This course will not qualify students to enrol in a PhD in the biotechnology sector.

The aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to further develop their biotechnology skills and obtain high quality business management skills.

This course will give students the skills required to enter the biotechnology industry at a variety of levels given that they will have both biotechnology and management skills which will provide a significant competitive advantage over their rivals.

This course will comprise the Master of Biotechnology (SMBT) and the Master of Business Administration (MBA). Students commencing their studies in either February or July semesters will do the SMBT component first followed by the MBA component in the following year. Students wishing to commence in September /October will complete the MBA component first followed by the SMBT. Students must complete all requirements of one component of the double degree before commencing the second component. The two degrees will only be conferred on completion of both components. Students will only be doing 75% of each degree so they will not be eligible to be awarded the individual degree for either SMBT or MBA if they do not complete the full program.

In the Master of Biotechnology component of the double degree students will be required to study two regular semesters plus a summer semester. The MBA will be offered in two ways. For students who commence the MBA component first (in September/October – ie. Term 4) they will complete 4 subjects each term over three terms. For students who commence the MBA component in Term 1 (February) or Term 3 (July) they may complete four subjects each term over the next three terms or three subjects each term over four terms. A total of twelve subjects (180 credit points) must be taken in the MBA.
