The Italian Studies Program is well reputed for the quality and breadth of its teaching and research. The staff are experienced in the supervision of postgraduate students in a diverse range of specialist areas (listed below).

The Borchardt Library’s outstanding Italian collection facilitates postgraduate study in this discipline. Postgraduate and staff seminars are offered regularly as a forum for ongoing research.

As well, staff members edit the refereed journal of Italian Studies Spunti e Ricerche. Expressions of interest are invited from graduates of other institutions, both in Australia and overseas. A limited number of postgraduate scholarships are available to well qualified applicants.

Principal areas of specialisation

Principal areas of specialisation are Dante, Medieval and Renaissance literature, Italian literature from the Enlightenment to the present day, the Italian novella, Italian theatre, Italian migration, Italo-Australian writing and translation studies.
