CREATIVE WRITING
Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing – Melbourne (Bundoora) (ACCW)

This course is intended for graduates who wish to develop their skills in the art and craft of writing. For further details see below under Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing.

Duration

The course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time.

Admission requirements

Applicants must hold either a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma from a tertiary institution of at least three years’ full-time duration (or an equivalent qualification).

Course structure

The course consists of at least 60 credit points from the Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing (see below). No more than 30 credit points may be at first year level and at least 40 credit points must be from List A.

Subject to approval of students’ enrolment by the Course Coordinator, normal prerequisites for the listed units will be waived for students in this course.

Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing – Melbourne (Bundoora) (AGCW)

This course is intended for graduates who wish to develop their skills in the art and craft of writing. ‘Creative writing’ is construed here more broadly than the writing of fiction. It is practised professionally in many domains: writing directly for publication, the stage, various electronic media, advertising and public relations, desktop publishing and specialised forms of communication - explaining and interpreting science or economics to the public, for media releases and brochures for official or commercial purposes, and for editing. Creative writing is also practised for personal satisfaction; this can include the writing of fiction, memoirs and family histories, verse and song lyrics.

The course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time.

Applicants must hold either a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma from a tertiary institution of at least three years’ full-time duration (or an equivalent qualification).

Course structure

The course consists of units from the following list to a total value of at least 120 credit points. The units are grouped as A (practical) and B (theoretical). Students must take at least four units from list A, at least 40 credit points (from either list) must be at or above third year level, and at most 30 credit points (from either list) may be at first year level.
