Duration: 2 years part-time

The Master of Occupational Health is designed to integrate theory, practice and research in occupational health. Building on previous coursework and relevant experience, successful applicants complete subjects providing advanced knowledge and application of occupational health and safety in the workplace. Students have the opportunity to develop research skills in the area and undertake a research project in a specialised area of occupational health. The course is multidisciplinary and is taught by distance education.

Admission requirements

Entry into the master program is usually via completion of the first year of the Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent). The normal entry requirement for the postgraduate diploma is an appropriate degree in the health sciences. Applicants without an appropriate degree may be admitted to the course through a special entry program. Depending on the applicant’s academic background and experience, preliminary studies may be a requirement for entry.

As the course is taught by distance education, students require email and internet access to fully participate. Attending any on-campus sessions is strongly recommended.

Applicants for the Master of Occupational Health should have one of the following:

  • a relevant three year degree with at least a B (70%) average, plus a relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent (e.g. a postgraduate diploma), or
  • a relevant four-year degree with at least a B (70%) average, plus professional or research experience and at least 60 credit points of relevant postgraduate study. This requirement is normally met by completion of the subjects offered in the Graduate Certificate of Occupational Health and Safety, or
  • a relevant honours degree with a grade H2A (75 %+) or above.

The Master of Occupational Health is offered by distance education. It is offered on a part-time basis over two years.
