Duration: 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time

The course provides an opportunity for students to build on the knowledge and skills gained in the Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Human Services or equivalent courses and to achieve a professional qualification in counselling at an advanced level.

Admission requirements

Applicants are required to hold a four-year degree in a related discipline or a bachelor degree, plus an approved fourth year of study plus relevant counselling experience. Admission is based on demonstrated academic ability and demonstration of suitable personal qualities at the interview. A course handbook is available from the course administrator.

Applicants must lodge a written application that meets the Admission requirements and take part in an interview.

Course structure

The course consists of 120 credit points of coursework and is usually taken over two years, with the specialism taken before or after the core subjects. The core subjects (totalling 80 credit points) are normally taken as a sequence in a single year.

Key: 1 The normal expectation is that students will fulfil the requirements of this subject by enrolling in subjects PHE5PEI Process Experiential Psychotherapy: Integrating Practice and PHE5PET Process Experiential Psychotherapy: Theory and Practice. Under special circumstances, applications to fulfil the requirement of this subject by enrolling in one of the approved external specialism: relationships counselling, Gestalt therapy, grief counselling, psychodrama, solution oriented counselling will be considered. This option is not available in 2010.
