Note: This course will be conducted only if sufficient enrolments are achieved.
The aim of this course is to develop the nurse’s theoretical knowledge and practical skills in caring for patients with coronary artery disease from acute myocardial infarction to ventricular assist devices and heart transplantation. As well as examining the pathophysiology of coronary artery disease, the psychosocial, ethical and rehabilitative aspects will be explored. Speakers include specialist nursing and medical clinicians and there will be practical skills workshops for the technological aspects of cardiac nursing (ECG interpretation, Swan Ganz monitoring and intra-aortic balloon pumps).
There is a minimum clinical requirement with study days for the certificate held at the Alfred Hospital location.
