Graduate Diploma in Outdoor and Environmental Education - Bendigo (RGOE)
The Graduate Diploma in Outdoor and Environmental Education provides a professional qualification for graduates in any discipline who have some prior outdoor experience. It is also structured to enable graduates in outdoor or environmental education to add depth and breadth to their disciplinary knowledge and skill. It offers an opportunity for those interested in developing skills and knowledge in the areas of outdoor and/or environmental education. It assists graduates to undertake assistant leadership roles in the outdoors or to further develop knowledge and skills in particular areas of interest.
Professional recognition
The Graduate Diploma is recognised by the Victorian Institute of Teaching as preparation for teaching Outdoor Environmental Studies to Year 12 when combined with a teaching qualification.
Admission requirements
Applicants should have a three-year degree or Diploma or equivalent studies and at least one of:
- lightweight remote camping and bushwalking skills
- environmental interpretation expertise; or
- self-sufficiency skills in canoeing (flat or moving water) OR rock climbing OR cross country ski touring, or
- leadership/teaching experience in the outdoors.
The course coordinator may waive some admission requirements in special circumstances.

Course structure
The graduate Diploma is a one-year full-time program comprising 120 credit points. Students undertake four core units and four outdoor and/or environmental education electives. Students may be exempt from some core units depending on prior tertiary education and outdoor experience. In such cases, students will choose alternative units in consultation with the course coordinator.

Students who have completed a Bachelor of Arts (Outdoor Education) or Bachelor of Arts (Nature Tourism) may undertake the graduate Diploma program with a view to completing the Master of Outdoor and Environmental Education program. These students will negotiate their course structure with the course coordinator.
