Faculty of EducationResearch degrees and doctoratesDoctor of Philosophy – Albury-Wodonga, Melbourne (Bundoora) (EDPHD), Bendigo (RPHDE)The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is intended for persons with strong theoretical and research interests whose primary commitment is to scholarship, research, teaching and professional training, usually in an academic setting. The PhD is undertaken by supervised research culminating in a thesis of approximately 80,000–100,000 words. It is assessed by external examiners and is required to make an original contribution to knowledge. DurationThe period of candidature for either doctorate is three to four years full-time or four to eight years part-time. Admission requirementsThe usual minimum requirement for admission to candidature for PhD or EdD is the completion of a Master’s degree by research or, in some instances, a Master’s degree including a shorter minor thesis. Applicants with a high Honours degree are eligible to apply. In addition, applicants must demonstrate, by their academic achievements and references, their ability to undertake work at Doctoral level. Content Approved by: Director, Marketing and Communications
