Faculty of EducationCoursework Master’s DegreesMaster of Teaching – Melbourne (Bundoora) (EDMTC), Albury-Wodonga (EDMTCW)The Master of Teaching provides a master’s level course which will allow candidates wishing to gain a recognised teaching qualification to register with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). The program of study includes curriculum theory, teaching methodology and classroom management, together with supervised teaching practice in schools, an internship and a research project. There are two streams: Primary and Secondary. Candidates may select either the Primary or Secondary teaching stream. It is also possible for students to combine Master of Teaching studies with the P-12 stream available at the Albury-Wodonga campus. Admission requirementsPrimary stream: The minimum pre-requisite is an approved bachelor’s degree. Year 12 mathematics at secondary school level or approved international equivalent is recommended. Secondary stream: A bachelor’s degree with major or sub-major studies in at least two discipline areas relevant to teaching subjects in the secondary school curriculum. Advanced standingApplicants with a 4 year bachelor degree equivalent teaching qualification that is recognised by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) are eligible for 120 credit points of advanced standing towards the 240 credit point 2-year program. Applicants who have completed a minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching in schools are exempt from the Professional Practicum component of the course which is an additional 30 credit points of study.DurationThe 240 credit point course may be taken in 2 years full-time or two to three years part-time. Course structureThe two year program consists of 240 credit points of study over four semesters with enrolment in 60 credit points in each semester. The sequence of study of the units varies according to the commencement date and the individual eligibility for advanced standing or credit. However, the Professional Practicum and the Research Project are always undertaken in the final semester of enrolment. The course consists of 240 credit points of study. Students commencing the Secondary stream in Semester 1 (February) will begin with the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) units of study for the first two semesters of the program. Students commencing the Secondary stream mid-year (July) and those selecting the Primary stream in either February or July will follow the sequence of studies detailed below:
