Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) – Bendigo (RGES), Melbourne (Bundoora) (EDGES), Mildura (EGESM)

Course brochure

This course qualifies graduates to teach in post-primary or secondary schools and colleges, and adult (including TAFE) contexts in Australia.

Duration

The course is normally undertaken by full-time study for one academic year or part-time over two or three years. The course at the Mildura Campus is only available on a full-time basis.

Admission requirements

Applicants should have a Bachelor degree or equivalent with sequences of studies in relevant units that satisfy the prerequisites specified for the particular teaching method. This is normally at least a sub-major in each of two recognised teaching subjects. In addition, competence in English is required as specified in the VTAC guide for local students. International students must meet the university admission requirements for competency in English.

Course structure

The course consists of 120 credit points and is planned around three major areas of study:

  • approaches to teaching and learning
  • methodology and curriculum, and
  • practical teaching.

There are two 14-week semesters of university-based work, including nine weeks of school teaching and further supervised school experience.
