General InformationPublic transport and parkingLocation of Bundoora CampusThe Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus is situated in the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Bundoora, at the intersection of Plenty Road and Kingsbury Drive, 14 km from the city centre (Melway street directory reference: 19 G7). MapsFree pocket-size TravelSmart Access Maps are available from the Union Services Centre on the second level of the Agora. These also show the various bicycle routes to and from Campus. A leaflet detailing the Melbourne (Bundoora) self-guided campus tour is particularly helpful for new students and staff. Maps for people with disabilities are available which show the location of accessible pathways, lifts, suitable parking areas and building access points. Maps of all campuses, and public transport access to them are available online. Travelling by tramRoute 86: Telstra Dome, City – Bundoora/RMITTram 86 runs directly from the Harbour Esplanade in Docklands (near the Telstra Dome), along Bourke St, via Southern Cross (previously Spencer Street) Station, through the city, up Smith Street in Collingwood, through Clifton Hill, up High Street through Northcote and Preston. From there it turns right up Plenty Road, stopping at the La Trobe University Medical Centre, and continues on to RMIT Bundoora Campus. Travel time to La Trobe University from the City (or the reverse) is around 45 mins to 1 hour depending on traffic. Travelling by trainThere is no direct train route to the campus. You will need to connect with one of the following bus or tram routes at the relevant railway station:
Using the City LoopParliament Station connects with Tram 86. Flinders St Station connects with Buses 340, 350 and 250, or Tram 86 from Bourke St. V/Line passengers at Southern Cross Station (previously Spencer St Station) can connect with Tram 86 at the corner of Spencer and Bourke Streets. Campus busA circular campus bus service operates every half hour between 8 am and 6.15 pm, Monday to Sunday. Please view the map and timetable for further information. An after-hours service is also available to escort students/staff from the library to car parks, residences and the tram stop. Travelling by carFrom the cityDriving east from the city, turn north onto Hoddle Street. Enter the Eastern Freeway, and exit at Chandler Highway. Turn left onto Chandler Highway, and continue on to Grange Road. Turn right onto Livingstone Street and left at Waterdale Road. Follow Waterdale Road through Ivanhoe, over Bell Street, and straight on to the La Trobe University campus at the South Entry (corner of Waterdale Road and Kingsbury Drive). From the Western Ring RoadExit the Western Ring Road at Plenty Road. Turn right onto Plenty Road towards Bundoora. Turn left onto Kingsbury Drive (at the La Trobe University Medical Centre), and left again to enter the University at the North Entry, or follow Kingsbury Drive to enter at the West Entry, or further again along Kingsbury Drive to the South Entry (corner Waterdale Road). From Melbourne AirportTake the Tullamarine Freeway to the Western Ring Road, then exit onto the Western Ring Road heading east towards the Hume Highway. Cross the Hume Highway onto the Metropolitan Ring Road, still heading east towards Bundoora. Exit the Ring Road at Plenty Road, and head south down Plenty Road until you reach La Trobe University at Kingsbury Drive. Car parkingAll vehicles (other than motor cycles) parked at the University between 8 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday must display a current parking permit or daily vending machine ticket. Parking permits are purchased from the Traffic & Parking office while daily tickets can be purchased from vending machines located in most of the car parks. A limited number of reserved permits is available to staff and students. For more parking information please contact Traffic & Parking or visit the web site. Car poolingA car pool service exists for car-owners and people seeking rides. When carpooling, members are entitled to a permit that guarantees them a space in the carpool carpark. It’s a great way to meet new people and share the cost of getting to the University. Disabled parkingSpaces for disabled drivers are available in most of the car parks closest to the University buildings. Car parks 1 and 8 also have a number of disabled bays. Visit the Traffic and Parking office for further information. Travelling by bicycleCycling to campus is a great way to keep fit and it’s free! Pick up a free TravelSmart Access Map (available from Contact in the Agora) for details of suggested bike routes to and from the University. There are about 150 bike lockers on-campus available for hire. Keys are available from the Administration Office, Union Building, on the first day of semester each year. The Union Building and the Sports Centre have free showers in the main male and female toilets.
