Our Philosphy of the Teaching / Learning Process

We seek to create a collaborative and active student- focused learning environment, while seeking to integrate desired outcomes in terms of a balance between practical application and a sound understanding of theory (know How to as well as Why). This will ensure that course content is able to be transferred to the workplace, but also able to be adapted and so sustained in the workplace. The teachuing process also actively encourages student participation, recognises that individual learners’ have particular requirements, as that all workers bring with them valuable experiences that can add to the collaborative.

Both Dr Stanton and Dr Young have extensive experience in industry as well as in the teaching environment. They have teaching experience with post-graduate domestic and international students at the GSM, as well as overseas in China, Vietnam and Mongolia.

Teaching Process
  • Interactive teaching
  • Problem based learning in particular dealing with problems that students bring to the classroom
  • Skill based – problem analysis and systems based practical (connecting issues to wider strategy and reality) application
  • Some use of relevant Case Studies
Skill development
  • Report writing
  • Problem solving
  • Research skills
  • Presentation and communication skills
  • Critical Conceptual thinking
