The Association for Chinese Economic Studies Australia (ACESA) in conjunction with the Graduate School of Management at La Trobe University is proud to announce the 22nd ACESA Annual Conference to be held in Melbourne, Australia, 15-17 July 2010.

The theme of this year's international conference is:

China: Economic Prosperity and Business Opportunities in the New Decade


The 22nd Annual Conference of the Association for Chinese Economic Studies Australia (ACESA) provides an open platform to bring together scholars and practitioners worldwide to present research and to stimulate exchanges on new developments in management and business opportunities in China in the new decade.

Call for Papers

Papers in all areas of economics, management and business development are welcome. The conference follows the format of major international conferences, with additional special sessions on issues relevant to the economic development in China and other Asian and Pacific countries. We will entertain a wide range of topics related to the conference theme. Sessions include, but will not necessarily be limited to, the following:

·    China’s open door policy
·    Privatisation and public sector reform in China
·    Integration of China and the Asia-Pacific
·    Financial globalisation and its implications for China
·    Technological innovation and technology transfer
·    China’s offshore investments
·    China and Australia - trade and investment perspectives
·    Agricultural and rural development in China
·    Resource demand and long-term strategies
·    Strategy and competitiveness
·    Climate change and environmental management
·    New venture and entrepreneurship
·    Country risk and crisis management

Electronic submission
Authors are invited to submit electronically (either in MS Word or PDF format) a complete paper to: n.elhaber@latrobe.edu.au. The first page of the paper should contain the title and name of the author(s). The postal address and email address of the author attending the conference should be highlighted. All submitted papers must be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 400 words.

Deadlines
·    31/05/2010 Submission of your abstract.
·    05/06/2010 Notification by the program committee of accepted abstracts.
·    30/06/2010 Submission of your full paper and PowerPoint slides.

Publication
A selection of papers will be considered for publication in the form of book or special journal issue depending on the number and quality of papers submitted. The selection will follow a double-blind refereeing process. The following journal will publish a special issue for the conference.

Prizes
Two prizes (AU$1,000 each) will be awarded, one for the Best Paper and one for the Best PhD Student Paper.

The “Wallage Executive Best Paper” prize is sponsored by Wallage Executive of Melbourne. 

Invited keynote speakers and Discussion Panel

A number of keynote speakers will be invited including leading academics and executives from leading universities and companies to talk about the current and future trends of the Chinese economy. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Ding Jianping is Director of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Research Center for Modern Finance. Professor Ding’s research interest is in monetary economics.
  • Trevor O’Hoy was the President and CEO of  Foster’s Group from 2004 until 10 June 2008.  Foster's Group is a beer group with interests in brewing, wine making and soft drinks.
  • Craig Scroggie, Vice President and Managing Director of Symantec in the Pacific region encompassing Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
  • Professor Ligang Song, Director of the China Economy Program at Australian National University, will chair a Discussion Panel on the second day of the conference.

Key dates

·    Final date for submission of the abstract: 31 May 2010
·    Final date for early bird registration: 25 May 2010.
·    Final date of registration for paper presenters: 20 June 2010 (papers will not be placed in the conference program if presenters’ registration has not been received by 20 June 2010).
·    Final date for submission of the full paper: 30 June 2010
·    Final date of registration for all other participants: 5 July 2010 (a fee of AU$50 will be charged for late payment for all categories of registrations)


Registration

Registration fees must be accompanied by the completed registration form. All payments must be made in Australian dollars. The Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST) is included in the registration fees.

Deadline
All registration fees should be received by 5 July 2010

Late registration
A late fee of AU$50 is charged for payments made after 5 July 2010 for all categories of registration.

Cancellation policy
Cancellations must be made in writing to the conference program committee before the registration deadline (5 July 2010). An administration fee of AU$50 will be charged for any cancellation. No refunds will be given for any cancellation after 5 July 2010.

Acknowledgement of registration
Confirmation of your registration will be issued upon receipt of your completed registration form and fees.
