GSM courses soar to record heights

The La Trobe Graduate School of Management courses are more popular than ever. In the recent mid-year intake, the GSM welcomed more than 80 new students from all over the world into its Master of International Business and Master of Marketing Management courses.
With students from six continents, the GSM are achieving its vision of gaining a truly international profile through delivery of socially responsible, inclusive, and relevant education opportunities.
"We see the increased popularity of the GSM as an effect of our ability to continually offer relevant and interesting courses – courses that obviously resonate well in a very competitive market”, says Head of School, Professor Geoffrey Durden.
This is evidenced by the fact that the three masters courses offered by the GSM are all ranked in among the four most popular postgraduate courses for the whole university, according to Hobsons®. Not surprisingly, the hugely popular Master of International Business is a clear number one in the number of applicants, ahead of the GSM’s own Master of Business Administration. Perhaps it is more of a surprise that the brand new Master of Marketing Management already ranks as number four on the same list of top postgraduate courses.
The courses received more than double the amount of applications expected, setting the standard of the course from the very first cohort. Program Director Dr Navin Veerapa is very pleased with the start of this program. “It is good to see that we have managed the marketing of this course so well – that is essentially what the course itself is all about”, says Dr Veerapa.
Modern students want a modern education
The number of domestic students showing an interest in the GSM is also at an all-time high. Attracted by the great reputation of the GSM courses and their academics, these modern students see great value in adding high level postgraduate work to their resumes.
The popularity of the course has meant added flexibility for the students as most subjects run during the day as well as at night, allowing individual part-time students to tailor a learning experience that suits their particular lifestyle. An increasing number of subjects even run in block mode on the weekends, adding an extra level of flexibility for the at-work students.
