Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies
Undergraduate Studies
The versatility of GSD Studies means that you can select from a general range of units. You can do a major, or combined major in GSD Studies, or choose individual units to complement other studies.
Major in GSD Studies
To satisfy the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts with a GSD Studies Major you need to complete 130 credit points in the area. Of these, 60 credit points must be taken at third year level and at least 40 points should be taken from the core units listed below.
Combined Majors
Some students complete combined majors in GSD studies and another discipline. This leaves their options open for both interdisciplinary and disciplinary postgraduate work and shows that they are qualified in two areas; both a 'traditional' discipline and an area of specialist expertise. Examples would be GSD Studies and English, History, Philosophy or Sociology. This can make you look more attractive to employers and better qualified for many kinds of work. It also allows you to enjoy following up two areas of interest and making the most of the intersections between them.
Combined majors are achieved by completing any required units for both GSD Studies and your other discipline, and completing 130 credit points in each. The list of units below will help you to see how this might be achieved.

About First Year
First year GSD Studies units are designed to give you an introduction to basic concepts in GSD Studies and to gain an appreciation of the range of both contemporary and historical issues affecting Australian women and men. Students attend lectures and tutorials to develop their thinking in this field and analyse a number of texts including advertising, film, statistics, autobiographical writing, historical documents and contemporary critique. Assessment develops students' skills in reading and analysing academic arguments and writing essays at university standard.
