Leadership opportunities

Glenn College pioneered student leadership teams at La Trobe, and we’re still continuously expanding leadership opportunities in college.

First year residents have opportunities to take up leadership positions in several ways:

  • get involved in your floor committee
  • help organise social and sporting activities
  • join a student club committee

The college also provides a range of formal training programs to equip you for leadership roles and lay the basis for leadership roles later in life.

Residential Assistants (RAs)

RAs are carefully chosen and trained to make sure that residents on a floor work well together as group. RAs provide leadership, plan events, build teams around them and manage an events budget for the floor. They monitor behaviour and are trained to deal with emergencies.

Academic mentors

Academic mentors meet on a weekly and fortnightly basis with specially organised study groups. Academic mentors provide study advice and inspiration. Mentors work with the college Warden and the Coordinator of Learning Programs to maximise the academic performance of every resident.

Student association

A student association in college helps organise the activities that distinguish college life – sports and fitness, social and cultural activities, and community engagement. Student association representatives will have control over their own budget and focus on delivering activities and outcomes that residents want.

Coordinators

Coordinators help to oversee the various areas of activity in college, such as international student programs, public relations, assist in the work of seniors and mentors and oversee safety and security projects.
