Environmental GeoscienceGraduatesAlex SneskovWaterway Planner, Melbourne Water I currently work for Melbourne Water as a Waterway Planner. We manage the waterway's environmental, social and economic values. As a waterway Planner it is my role to become involved in significant events that may impact the waterways within my area of responsibility. The waterways flowing into the northern reaches of Western Port Bay including the Koo Wee Rup Flood Protection District along with waterways flowing through industrial and residential areas of south-east of Melbourne city into Port Phillip Bay.
The work can involve academic, office and field work such as asset site inspection and condition reporting, flow studies, and the benefits and experience of seeing the direct result of your efforts within on-ground works in the real world. I undertook my study of Environmental Science at La Trobe broken over a number of years, utilising the time to gain practical experience and skills that have complemented the study. The course provided a sound basis for program development and implementation over multi-discipline fields and the seamless incorporation of expert knowledge into waterway planning. The image on the right highlights one of my pet projects, a major platypus habitat development site. Content Approved by: Head of Environmental Geoscience
