Inspector Richard Watkins (BA (RMIT), M.Crim (Melb), MPPM (Melb)) served a total of seven years at the Major Fraud Group as a detective senior constable and later as a detective sergeant running his own investigation team. He has worked in both general investigation and initial action areas of the MFG and conducted investigations into trade unions, government agencies, financial institutions and corporations.

He has also worked as a divisional detective undertaking a wide variety of criminal investigations. He has also undertaken investigation duties as a part of a task force. During 2004 he was a part of the project team that researched organised crime in Victoria, resulting in an organised crime strategy being published.

His current role in Victoria Police is as the Inspector in charge of the Major Collision Investigation Group that investigates Crimes Act offences relating to fatal crashes.
