Meet our student
Ms Kirsty Duncan
Course of study:
Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management; Marketing and International Business) 2011
I had a goal that my degree would provide me with a supportive career in the business world and teach me valuable lessons to accompany me in the workforce. I completed my HSC in 2008 and was greatly interested in studying business at university level since Year 9.
I wanted a course that would offer me many possible career opportunities to broaden my working life and I believe La Trobe is providing me with this. I’m interested in the Human Resource sector of business. I wish to complete honours in HRM or otherwise complete a Diploma in HRM.
La Trobe is a supportive university structured to provide students with valuable educations and endearing life skills. Study resources are widely accessible to students. The campus is easy to get around and nothing is too hard to locate. Studying at a regional campus is wonderful because of the engaging and friendly environment. I like the endearing atmosphere provided by regional campus staff.
For highschool students who are thinking about studying at uni, my advice is, even if your course has no prerequisite subjects listed, enlist in subjects similar to those in the degree you’re aspiring to do – what you learn in high school can provide a solid base in your degree. Studying close to home for at least the first year of university makes the transition from high school easier, and engaging with a mentor to assist and guide you can be highly beneficial.
