Meet our student

Ms Henriette Dalby

Course of study:
Bachelor of Business (Majoring in Human Resource Management and Management)

La Trobe is preparing me for work life through relevant subjects and initiatives as well as programs such as the Student Career Mentoring Program that I am currently enrolled in. Meeting up with my mentor who is an industry professional, enables me to gain insight into the 'real' world to see what opportunites exist and what skills are needed.

I am thinking I will work in Human Resource Management for a little while to gain industry experience. My ultimate goal would be to one day open my own business. I think my education will lay a good foundation; however industry experience is important in building a career.

I am funded by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund which enables me to pay tuition and living expenses. Throughout my degree I have recieved two scholarships from La Trobe - the Academic Excellence Scholarship and the Study Melbourne Scholarship. These came as a deduction in tuition fees and will be greatly appreciated once I have to start paying back on my student loan.

As an international student, just living in such a vibrant and metropolitan city is enough for me to love it. Melbourne offers everything you could ever want and a little more. I think it is a wonderful place to live and don't think I ever want to leave.

Even though I am an international student, I participated in the student exchange program and went to Mexico for one semester. It was a great experience that is highly recommended. It is like living in a bubble away from reality. Going overseas might seem scary but what you gain from it is worth its weight in gold. I have never heard of a single person who has regretted going on exchange. Chances are you will not want to leave.

As president of the surf club, the social aspect of La Trobe has been good. We run multiple trips every semester where we all get to meet new, mainly international, students. The Agora is a great place to hang out and have a coffee and catch up with friends. University is not as hard as it might seem. You just need to be a little organised and keep up with the work, and you'll be great.
