Mr Andrew Young
Course of study:
Bachelor of Accounting
I started at La Trobe in Bendigo a number of years ago as a mature age entry, transferred to Bundoora campus, dropped out, got most of the way through an Advanced Diploma in Accounting at BRIT before deciding to come back and finish my Accounting degree at La Trobe in Bendigo.
I got to go on the International Accounting Study Trip to Europe which was fantastic. We stayed in great hotels across five countries and met with senior staff from companies such as Volkswagon in Germany and Nestle in Switzerland. And I got a third year credit for it!
I also spent a week working in an accounting firm in Swan Hill as part of an industry experience program. They put me up with one of the partners and his family, and put me to work in the firm with their trainer to show me what it was really like to work as an accountant.
My advice for secondary students who are hoping to study at uni is to keep up with the reading and the tute work. Chip away at a bit every day as it is really hard to catch up if you fall behind.
