Course of study:
Bachelor of Business (Tourism and Hospitality) 2009
When it came time to decide what I wanted to study at uni, I wanted to find a degree that offered interesting subjects. I tried to picture myself studying for three years and of course, I had to decide where I wanted to live as I was moving away from home for the very first time as I was straight out of Year 12.
I really enjoyed the small class size, we finished with 9 people in our major and we will be lifelong friends; they made going to uni fun and enjoyable. I have found the wide range of core and course specific subjects to be beneficial and interesting. The assignments in tourism can be applied to real life which makes them applicable and easier to learn from. Going onto post-graduate studies, i have noticed that the subjects offered in Bendigo differ from that of Bundoora and i see them as being superior in some ways. I feel that my undergraduate has prepared me for postgraduate better than i expected. Which proves that even though Bendigo is a regional campus, we are getting the high level of education.
What I liked most about the Bendigo campus was that there were always resources (computers etc.) available when you needed them and staff that were more than willing to help you. Having accommodation so close to campus was a real bonus also.
I was on the Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship for the duration of my course which greatly assisted my everyday expenses. I didn’t have to worry as much about working ridiculous hours just to pay the rent and could concentrate on my studies and assignments. I lived on campus for the 1st and 2nd year. The facilities are what you make of them and differ each year. In 2007 and 2008 the staff and Bendigo Residential Services were amazing. They made the transition to uni life so easy and comfortable. Living on campus made life so easy. The lifestyle is what you make it. You may not be in the Ritz but you are surrounded by great people and have the opportunity to participate in so many activities so making friends is easy and fun. Now, I feel that the best thing I did was to move to Bendigo (5 hours away from home) to study.
