Course description
This course aims to give students the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in a wide range of areas within the private and public sectors. It adopts a problem-focused approach that helps students develop important problem-solving and decision-making skills relevant to any business. Depending on campus, majors include business economics, financial planning, financial management, human resource (HR) management, international business, international management, macroeconomics, management, management information systems, marketing, and sustainable resource management. The flexible program includes an exit point at Diploma level (see Diploma in Business).
Prerequisite
VCE Units 3 & 4: study score of at least 25 in English (ESL) or 20 in any other English. NSW HSC: satisfy Year 12 English requirements.
Extra requirements
Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a VTAC Pi form if they wish other information to be considered during the selection process. This may include information such as work experience or reasons for applying. Applicants may wish to provide other documentation in support of their application.

The curriculum strongly emphasises the role of sport in forming cohesive communities, and sports operations and industry. It includes the highest number of sport-related subjects in a degree of its kind in Australia. Current teaching staff are members of key research groups in relevant areas, and widely respected authorities in their field, and most institutions offering similar degrees use texts written or edited by La Trobe academics - e.g. Sport and Social Captial, edited by Associate Professor Russell Hoye.

Sport Management placement opportunities

As part of our commitment to innovating curriculum design and development, we have recently appointed several Work Integrated Learning Coordinators at our Melbourne and Regional campuses. Work integrated learning means you'll get to apply your skills in the workplace, as you study. You can earn credit towards your degree through work placements or simulations. Work integrated learning is endorsed by the Federal Government and industry groups such as the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It will assist to increase your employability potential when you graduate.

Additionally, placements are offered in various Sport Management subjects. The Sports Practicum gives you the chance to analyse current practices, evaluate personal and professional competencies and apply theory to a sports management issue. In the Victorian Champions League, you become the Club Manager within Football Federation Victoria and develop your sport management skills to develop and promote the League. The Sport Management Project lets you apply theory to a practical project negotiated with your unit coordinator.

Overseas study opportunities

Gain valuable overseas experience by taking part in a short-term overseas study program with one of our 100 partner universities in over 30 countries. Or spend 6–12 months in a student exchange program in destinations like Canada, the US, South America, Europe or the UK.
