Brief profile

Professor Russell Hoye’s areas of expertise include corporate governance, volunteer management, public policy and the role of social capital in nonprofit organizations. He has secured three ARC Linkage Grants in areas such as volunteer management practices in community sport (Australian Rugby Union), retention of sports officials (Australian Rugby Union) and the relationship between participation in sport and community wellbeing (Victorian Health Promotion Foundation). Russell is currently supervising Masters and PhD students in the areas of corporate governance, public sector regulatory practices, volunteer management, and professional sport league sustainability.

He has acted as a consultant for the Australian Sports Commission, Sport Knowledge Australia, Netball Australia, Victorian Department of Planning and Community Development, Sport and Recreation Victoria, Victorian Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Victorian Casino and Gaming Authority, Victorian Amatuer Football Association, Melbourne Racing Club and many state sport organisations.

Russell is the editor of the Sport Management Series produced by Routledge (formerly via Elsevier: Butterworth Heinemann), a member of the editorial board for Sport Management Review and the International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics, Past President of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ), and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Russell is a member of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law Board and a member of Academic Board.
