Northern Melbourne Regional Development Australia (NMRDA), NORTH Link and La Trobe University are co-hosting a Summit for the northern metropolitan and rural region of Melbourne, Melbourne’s North: Now and Tomorrow. The Summit will be held at La Trobe University on Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 in the Western Lecture Theatre. 

A pre-Summit dinner will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at The Centre Ivanhoe.

A series of Conversation Cafés will be held in April. The Cafés will involve facilitated discussions on the Summit themes.

The Summit will foster effective collaboration between industry, employers, community groups, members of government and education groups to:

1.        Increase knowledge and understanding of key issues in Melbourne’s North

2.        Celebrate key regional initiatives in food processing, knowledge economy, digital economy, aviation and education and stimulate innovation

3.        Build social capital, resilience and adaptability to emerging socioeconomic opportunities

4.        Develop healthy and sustainable communities

5.        Stimulate the digital economy in Melbourne’s North

6.        Cultivate a culture where a diverse and growing population thrives

The seven themes of the Summit are:

·         Growing Industry and Fostering Innovation

·         Promoting Education and Developing Human Capital

·         Building a Healthy Community

·         Fostering the Arts and Culture

·         Transport and Infrastructure for the Future

·         Securing Environmental Sustainability, and

·         Stimulating the Digital Economy in Melbourne’s North

Workshops will be held on each of these themes on the day.

The Pre-Summit Dinner will be held at the Centre Ivanhoe, in Ivanhoe.

·         Time: 6pm – 11pm

Conversation Cafés: Melbourne’s North Now and Tomorrow

A series of facilitated Conversation Cafés will be held as part of the Melbourne’s North: Now and Tomorrow Summit.

The Cafés will be broadly-themed and informal, and held in cafés across Melbourne’s North (Hume, Whittlesea, Mitchell, Nillumbik, Moreland, Darebin, Banyule and Yarra). Coffee will be provided at each session.
