About the workshop

The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is a comprehensive early intervention model developed to target the core deficits seen in toddlers and preschoolers with Autism: social orientation, attention, affect sharing and attunement, imitation, joint attention, language development, and functional and symbolic play. The ESDM has an interactive, communication and relationship-based framework that fosters active experiential learning by supporting child spontaneity and initiative.

In this introductory workshop, you will learn about the theoretical and empirical framework, curriculum and teaching principles of the ESDM.

The workshop will outline how to:

  • Administer and complete a developmental assessment of children’s skill levels
  • Develop individualised, developmentally-appropriate teaching objectives
  • Implement the ESDM fidelity system to evaluate teaching practices
  • Maintain data management and address poor or limited child progress, when needed.
