On October 1 and 2 La Trobe University will host Australia’s first Peri-urban Conference at its Melbourne Campus. Peri-urban areas are those regions and places that surround our metropolitan areas and cities. In many countries including Australia they are some of the fastest growing areas. This two day event will bring together those who live and work in peri-urban areas, local governments, policy makers, researchers and practitioners from around Australia and overseas. Participants will share their experiences and knowledge, discuss the issues and identify the actions, policies and initiatives that are of critical importance to the future liveability, planning, sustainability and prosperity of peri-urban areas - now and in the future.
The conference will include plenary sessions, workshops and roundtable discussions. It will be of interest to a broad range of persons and organisations concerned with the issues faced by these places ‘beyond the edge’ such as: food and water security, environment, transport, community and demographic change, facilities, service provision and the governance of peri-urban areas.
