This comprehensive 4.5 day accreditation program is designed to equip participants with appropriate knowledge and skills to engage in pre- and post- HIV and hepatitis C antibody test discussion, and prevention education, in a range of settings.
The Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 requires that anyone who provides a HIV positive result, who is not a medical practitioner, must be a person of ‘prescribed class’. After successfully completing this accredited training, health and community workers will be prescribed as HIV and Hepatitis C Test Advisors, thereby meeting the requirements of the Act. All accredited courses in Victoria include hepatitis C testing, as the issues in pre- and post-testing settings, for clients and practitioners, are very similar.
The course offered by ARCSHS contains enhanced hepatitis B content, including hepatitis B overview, risk assessment, and issues in pre and post test discussion.
This program also consists of an assessed pre-reading component. Completion of the pre reading task, which may take up to 5 hours, must be completed prior to commencement. The course itself runs for 4.5 days.
