Two La Trobe University Chinese language students will compete on 12 May in the Victorian Preliminaries of the 11th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for University Students, themed “My China Dream”. They will be rivalling 7 other contestants from Victorian universities for the opportunity to participate in the world finals to be held in Changsha, China, in July and August this year.
The “Chinese Bridge” is a large-scale international contest sponsored by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban). Since its launch in 2002, nearly eighty thousand students from over sixty countries have participated in the annual competition. The prize at stake for a world finalist is a Confucian Institute scholarship for study in China; the two lead prizes being a multi-year scholarship for the study of a degree course, and an additional three awards for the study of Chinese language for up to one academic year.
The Victorian Preliminaries will be hosted by the Confucius Institute at La Trobe University and attended by HE Mr Shi Weiqiang, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne, and Professor John Rosenberg, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
Rally your support behind our La Trobe contestants and join us on competition day. In addition to competitor presentations, involving both a speech and performance, light refreshments and additional cultural entertainment will be provided.
