University Bridging Program Mildura – An introduction to tertiary studies

This project aims to address the language and literacy difficulties experienced by many students with a migrant or refugee background.  The program will include spelling and grammar, reading and analysing academic texts, understanding an essay question, brainstorming and writing an essay plan.

Delivering smoother pathways from TAFE to HE:  an investigation of barriers and drivers for sport management students.

This project aims to improve access and participation into the Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) for students from Low SES and regional backgrounds.  The focus is on students within the TAFE sector, and involves developing opportunities for increased student engagement and also undertaking research with currently enrolled TAFE students (studying sport and recreation) to identify barriers and drivers for transition from the TAFE sector into a degree program.

VCE Practical Workshops in Chemistry and Biology for SALT schools

(Albury Wodonga)  

The project aims to provide VCE students in Central Victorian regional areas with opportunities to attend VCE practical workshops in Chemistry and Biology.  These workshops address VCE school assessed coursework (SACS), which contribute to the final ENTER score of VCE students.

This project aims to provide middle years students from low SES, Indigenous, refugee and/or rural (isolated and drought affected) backgrounds to participate in a two week intensive musical theatre writing and performance course. The course seeks to encourage engagements with educational institutes, such as La Trobe University and increase students' familiarity with such environments.

VCE National Politics Forums: International Politics, Democracy, Rights and Constitutional Reform in Australia

The program aims to provide a stimulating education experience for Low SES and rural students studying VCE national Politics, International Politics and Legal Studies in the Bendigo region.  It is designed to promote the University’s equity objectives, and to improve the long-term collaborative arrangements between local secondary schools and La  Trobe University.

Seeing the world beyond: Photography for disadvantaged youth as a way of knowing and discovering creative self

This project is aimed at upper middle-years students who are having difficulty remaining engaged in their school work.  The project will develop relationships with the students and give them another focus and way of looking at themselves and the need to remain engaged in education so as not to compromise their future.  This project is based on successful international models for youth engagement by using creative media, integrated curriculum methods and a strength-based approach to learning.

Experience Outdoor and Environmental Education at La Trobe

This project aims to engage Indigenous, rural and remote students in a taster program that enables them to experience a variety of activities, including bushwalking and climbing in the Grampians.  This program will enable participants to liaise with current undergraduate students in the Outdoor and Environmental Education (OEE) course, and assist in building the participants’ confidence to empower them to consider higher education within the OEE field.

SALT: VCE  Summer School

This program will provide 300 students free places in the VCE summer school to be held at Melbourne Campus.  The program will target students from SALT schools in Low SES postcode areas.

This program will provide 290 students from SALT schools with free places for Mid year VCE revision classes run by Access Education in 2011.  The focus of this program will be students from SALT schools which are also Low SES Partner schools with La  Trobe University.

Rural mature age men’s experience of returning to study at regional campuses of LTU
