Peer mentoring for Equity students

The specific aim of this proposal is the development of an online toolkit, mentor training program, resources and support to encourage all faculties in implementing high quality and best practice Peer mentoring to support equity students in their transition to University.

Second hand Bookshop at the SRC.

The project aims to re-establish a second hand bookshop for students on campus.

Collaborative, intercultural, public mural project at Bundoora Campus

To promote intercultural communication between culturally different student groups on campus. Also to provide an opportunity for students with English and non-English speaking backgrounds to participate together on a creative project which will augment their skill and confidence levels while enhancing the physical space of the university.

Muslim students guide: A resource for Muslim students

To design and print a guide which would not only be a valuable resource for students but also a useful marketing tool. The guide would help promote La Trobe as an institution that values cultural diversity, as well as to encourage Muslim students to apply to a University that values provision of high quality, culturally appropriate resources.

Outreach program for mature age and future students: An introduction to academic reading and writing

The project involves the design, development and implementation of a short introductory course in academic reading and writing for potential mature age students at Mildura campus.

A pilot of a regional community outreach access scheme entitled “A Taste of Tertiary”

This pilot program plans to offer two Humanities and Social Sciences units in each of two regional locations (Swan Hill and Renmark) two hours drive from Mildura campus.

Bridgeworks: An academic skills transition program for regional business students grounded in students’ ethical and professional development

Bridgeworks will assist the transition and retention of former Year 12 and other students from a variety of academic, employment and personal backgrounds entering School of Business undergraduate programs in semester 1, 2009.

Legal Studies outreach program for students from a low socio-economic background

This project aims to increase awareness and ultimately the access of students from low socio-economic backgrounds to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences by introducing them to the Legal Studies program and the broader possibilities of tertiary study.

Recruitment and retention of mature aged students from rural communities in Central Victoria

The project seeks to engage more mature-aged individuals from rural communities in the application process for the School of Social Work & Social Policy, by offering new information sessions at various venues throughout the region, and mentoring at least 10 mature aged individuals throughout the process of application, selection and commencement at Bendigo Campus.

This Place Nurtures Good Relationships – the prevention of sexual violence among university students.

This project will build on the formative work done in 2008 by the Counselling Service.  It aims to promote respectful and equitable gender relations through the development, implementation and documentation of a range of workshops and orientation activities, resulting in a comprehensive Training Kit for future use by staff and student leaders.

VCE Practical Workshops in Chemistry, Biology, Nanotechnology and Physics.

This project targets students in SALT schools (ie under-represented schools) and provides an opportunity for them to consolidate their VCE coursework.  The HEESP grant covers the cost of on-campus workshops and provides bus subsidies to bring students to the campus.

Transport Subsidy

This project targets students in SALT schools (ie under-represented schools) and provides bus subsidies to support attendance at the Northern Tertiary Information Service event at Bundoora campus.

Linking geography students and teachers with the Bachelor of Urban, Rural and Environmental Planning

This project aims to encourage and support enrolments.  It will take an innovative lecture and workshop program to VCE geography students, including a day at the Bendigo campus where the targeted students can attend a lecture with students enrolled in the Bachelor program.  Bus subsidies will be provided to bring students to Bendigo campus.

VCE Summer school scholarships

This project aims to increase low SES student preparation for university by offering scholarships which cover the cost of VCE preparation letures in the summer break before students commence VCE year.
