| Academic Student Mentor for Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery Student. | This project aims to provide an academic student mentor to nursing and midwifery students at the Bundoora campus. The project aim is to offer a central contact person that students can access if they require information, advocacy, support and/or referral on issues relating to personal circumstances or course/career related issues. The development of a grant scheme to provide access to basic computers for students from the equity groups (disability, low SES, rural and isolated) at the Bendigo campus. |
| Overcoming Disadvantage by Using Social and Cultural Diversity as a Pedagogical Resource. | The project explores the specifically cultural dimension of obstacles to learning facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds and implements and evaluates a range of teaching strategies to overcome them with particular emphasis on the use of social and cultural diversity encountered in the class room as a pedagogical resource. |
| Supporting Transition to University of Rural and Isolated Students. | The development of web based resources to support the orientation and transition of Bendigo students with key areas for development: virtual tour; information on effective study habits and academic skills. As part of Orientation Week, electronic versions were made available via the University web site affording greater access to rural and isolated students. |
| Orientation and Transition to University: A resource for students from non-English speaking backgrounds. | Project assisting in the transition of students from non-English speaking backgrounds by providing an orientation video about the attitudes to knowledge and study, teaching and learning expectations of an Australian University. |
| Computer-mediated resources to support intercultural access and engagement for Non-English Speaking Background Education students. | Project to provide pre-service education students from non-English speaking backgrounds with a virtual experience of an Australian classroom via computer generated scenarios (vignettes), providing insight into the socio-cultural context of Australian schools. | Migrating to Uni: Developing a support network for NESB students at Bundoora campus. | The aim of this project is to strengthen the capacity of the University community to respond to the needs of NESB students through enhanced staff awareness of the challenges faced by NESB students; the development of clear and comprehensive pathways to support NESB students; and the identification and development of targeted support activities for future implementation. |
| VCE Summer School Bursaries. | The purpose of this project is to support the University in reaching its equity targets and achieving its undergraduate CSP enrolment targets, by offering 70 scholarship places for students from low SES schools to participate in up to 3 of the VCE Summer School classes. |
| Adapting the York Adult Assessment for Australian Use. | This project seeks to adapt a U.K. dyslexia resting instrument for use in Australia. It aims to identify students with dyslexia in a simplified and cost effective form. This assessment can then be used to recommend appropriate accommodations for each student. |
| Web CT resource development for secondary school science students. | The goal of this project is to develop and promote a scientific resource that allows secondary school science students, particularly rural students to access and share scientific information that is frequently updated, informative, reliable and freely accessible. |
