Grounds for discrimination

Discrimination is prohibited by law if it is based on irrelevant characteristics. These characteristics, called attributes, are set out in the State in and Federal Legislation and cover the following:

age breastfeeding gender identity impairment (disability) industrial activity Employment activity

lawful sexual activity

marital status Parental status or status as a carer physical features political belief or activity pregnancy
race (ethnicity, nationality) religious belief or activity sex (gender) sexual orientation personal association with a person identified with any of the above attributes sexually harassment is also unlawful
