Special Commendations
Blake Haslam, Civil Engineering student, Bendigo Campus
Don't flush away our drinking water!
Blake's detailed proposal was to capture rain water from the residences at the Bendigo campus using rain water tanks and use it to flush the toilets.
Anthony Earl, Simon Knight, Bundoora Campus
A revolution from within
Anthony and Simon would like the university to incorporate pathways into curriculum structure allowing sustainability to be practiced for cultural, social and academic benefit of both students and staff. These pathways would integrate analysis and action into undergraduate courses, student culture, internal staff practices and post-grad research also including assessment.
Jodi Sita, Lecturer in Health Sciences, Bundoora Campus
Environmentally responsible graduates
Jodi proposes to have each course/faculty discuss and incorporate sustainability ideas into their courses. Such that students (and staff) are moved from a practice of just doing what they always do to considering as many angles as possible from how their daily work impacts on the environment, how their professional practices effect the environment and how corporate decisions effect the environment.
Catherine Scott, Nursing student, Bundoora Campus
Sensor lights
Catherine's idea is to install sensor lights in staff offices and classrooms so if left on they will turn off when the rooms are not in use.
