Biodiversity

La Trobe University's Melbourne (Bundoora) campus is renowned for its beautiful leafy grounds, complete with kangaroo mob and duck families.

Before European settlement of Australia, Bundoora, the land of the Wurendjeri nation, was a rich and resourceful wetlands area. When Europeans arrived, the area was cleared for farmland.

Now, La Trobe University is committed to restoring the environments in its four nature conservation reserves to their indigenous state. The Melbourne Wildlife Sanctuary, a department of the Buildings and Grounds Division, manages over 100 hectares of conservation land.

Detailed information about La Trobe University's commitment to biodiversity and ecology can be found at the Melbourne Wildlife Sanctuary site.
