About the Department

 The Department is located at the Albury-Wodonga campus of La Trobe University, in North Eastern Victoria, adjacent to the Murray River. The Department offers:
  • A three-year Bachelor of Bioscience. The full three years can be undertaken at Albury-Wodonga majoring in freshwater ecology which includes freshwater ecology, natural resource management and catchment management or students can undertake the first year of this course and then move to the Melbourne campus to continue a major in either biochemistry, botany, ecology, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology or zoology.
  • The full three years of the Bachelor of Science (Applications in Society) with majors in freshwater ecology, psychology and sustainable resource management.
  • First year of the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Bachelor of Science (Wildlife and Conservation Biology) can be undertaken at Albury-Wodonga with the second and third years being undertaken at the Melbourne campus.
  • Honours, Masters and PhD students are also accommodated, supervised by lecturing staff with research interests in land management practices, aquatic science (the Department has close collaboration with Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre located on the Albury-Wodonga campus), conservation biology/genetics, wildlife management, and pollution control. The Department also has staff who collaborate with the Research Centre for Applied Alpine Ecology.
