Potential industry partners
Employers in the Murrumbidgee Basin are invited to participate in an innovative new program in response to the shortage of Civil Engineers in the region.
Each year of civil engineering study at La Trobe University will have an associated 12 weeks of on-the-job training with the employer. On the completion of the degree the student will be contracted to work with the employer for 2 years.
Potential partners might include water authorities, irrigation schemes, catchment management authorities, Local Government and private businesses.
Organisations are invited to register their interest by completing an expression of interest form [PDF 20KB] and submitting it to Catherine Wallace (T: 03 5444 7744, E: email@example.com). Once selected, La Trobe University and each organisation will jointly select suitable student applicants.
The total cost of the scholarship is $12,100 per annum. The annual cost of the student's undergraduate study is divided between the FRRR/Pratt Foundation and the employer:
- FRRR - $3000
- Employer - $2,000
The student also undertakes paid vacation work for the length of their degree, earning approximately $7,100 each year. As a result, the cost to the employer will be $9,100 per year of study/vacation work.
Industry partners will be selected on the basis of:
- Demonstrated civil engineering shortage/need
- Commitment to contribute towards cadetship funds, student industry experience, and support of academic projects related to local environmental issues
- Impact of civil engineering shortage on the environment within the Murrumbidgee Catchment, and organisational objectives
- Applicants from beyond Murrumbidgee Catchment will be considered.
