First aid training

First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training are provided by St John Ambulance.

The team at St John Ambulance will prepare you to deliver a critical, competent and confident first aid response in the event of an illness or emergency situation.

All St John Ambulance trainers have qualifications as nurses or paramedics. This training is delivered on-site at your campus or at a local St John training centre, widley available across metropolitan and regional Victoria, and is available to La Trobe students and staff at a discounted rate.

Courses available

Provide First Aid

First aid training will develop your knowledge and skills to provide CPR and first aid for a range of illnesses and injuries, enabling you to coordinate first aid until the arrival of medical assistance.

  • nationally recognised course
  • practical CPR performed on an adult and infant manikin
  • certification valid for three years

Provide Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

CPR training is also available as a separate course. This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to deliver CPR to an unconscious non-breathing person (infant, child and adult).

  • delivered in a 3.5 hour face-to-face trainer-led workshop

Statement of Attainment

A Statement of Attainment (Certificate) will be emailed after successfully completing the course.

Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be recorded with St John as a certificate can’t be issued until the USI is recorded and an online feedback form completed at the end of the course.

Due to St John’s First Aid training using the USI as per Federal Government Education Act requirements, a person's legal/paper name is required on the certificate. As a workaround for our staff and students who have a preferred, chosen or affirmed name that is different to their legal/paper name, we propose the following in order to avoid your legal/paper name being used throughout the class and on the presented learning materials:

  1. Fill out the registration form, using your preferred/chosen/affirmed name
  2. St Johns will then send out a USI registration form, do not fill this out until after the class has finished
  3. Delaying the USI form will mean your preferred/chosen/affirmed name will be present on the roll and learning materials

While delaying the completion of the USI form will not affect your participation in the class, it will delay your participation certificate. Your participation certificate will still show your legal/paper name.
