The Department of Electronic Engineering offers a number of scholarships to local undergraduate students commencing an undergraduate degree within the Department of Electronic Engineering as well as a scholarship for international postgraduate coursework students.

Undergraduate Scholarships

The Department of Electronic Engineering offers the following scholarships to local undergraduate students commencing an undergraduate degree within the Department of Electronic Engineering:

Dr. Wanda Henry Memorial Scholarship, $10,000

This five year scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student, chosen for exceptional personal and academic qualities, as well as potential to make a significant contribution to their area of study and to university life in general. Applicants must be eligible to enrol in the first year of the Bachelor of Electronic Engineering/Master of Biomedical Engineering, or another five-year engineering course in the Department of Electronic Engineering.

This scholarship is awarded in memory of the late Dr. Wanda Henry. Dr. Henry was a lecturer in the Department of Electronic Engineering and was a distinguished researcher with an outstanding academic record.

Hooper Memorial Scholarship $2,000

This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student, commencing any four or five year engineering course in the Department of Electronic Engineering.

Departmental Scholarships, $1,000

Departmental scholarships are awarded to commencing students studying an engineering course within the Department of Electronic Engineering.

Selection Criteria

In addition to eligibility criteria for individual scholarships, students must also meet the following selection criteria:

  • High overall performance in VCE (or equivalent) studies
  • Demonstrated interest in a career in Electronic Engineering
  • Good study skills and organisation and an ability to adapt to University life and make satisfactory academic progress

It is desirable that the student has a keen interest in electronics.

Application Process

To apply for a scholarship offered by the Department of Electronic Engineering, please complete the scholarship application form and include the requested information.

Applications close on the 30 November each year. Suitable applicants will be requested to attend an interview prior to the allocation of scholarships.

Successful applicants will be awarded a scholarship upon enrolment in the course. The scholarship is tenable only for a student enrolled full-time at La Trobe University and is subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress and enrolled status at La Trobe University.

International Postgraduate Coursework Scholarship

 

  • Applications for 2008 scholarships now available
  • The Department of Electronic Engineering offers one scholarship per semester to the value of $8,500 to an international student enrolled in their second year of study in one of the following courses:
  • Master of Electronic Systems and Network Engineering
  • Master of Telecommunications and Network Engineering
  • Master of Microelectronic Engineering
  • Master of Biomedical Engineering.

This scholarship is awarded to the top performing student studying a two year Masters program delivered by the Department of Electronic Engineering (see eligibility and selection criteria for more details).

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be:

  • a full-time student enrolled in a two year masters program delivered by the Department of Electronic Engineering. From 2006, the Master of Electronic and Network Engineering, Master of Telecommunication and Network Engineering, Master of Microelectronic Engineering and the Master of Biomedical Engineering will be included.
  • Full-time students must have completed the 120 credit points in one year.
  • Part-time students must have completed the 120 credit points in no more than two years.

The scholarship will be paid, as a fee waiver, in one installment in the second year of the course, at the start of the semester for which the award is made.

Selection Criteria

It is essential that the student meet the following selection criteria:

  1. Must be in their third or fourth semester of study in a 2 year masters program.
  2. Overall academic merit:
    1. a weighted average mark of 80% or greater in the preceding 2 semesters of study at La Trobe
    2. In particular the best four (4) subjects (excluding foundation subjects, ELE51/2PRA and CSE11/2SYS) will be taken into consideration.
  3. Contribution to profession and community. The applicant must be of outstanding character and contributing to enhance the engineering profession and community or student body.

In addition to the selection criteria, academic staff will be consulted for their recommendations concerning the short listed candidates.

To apply for this scholarship, please complete the scholarship application form .

Applications must be submitted to the Department of Electronic Engineering office by 4:30pm on the four Friday of the semester each year. The scholarship will normally be awarded within two weeks of the closing date.
