Research interests

  • The research interests of Dr Usher lie in the area of Semiconductor Materials & Device Research . Particular focus on GaAs based materials for near infrared optical communications applications. Laboratory facilities include a molecule beam epitaxy growth system, high resolution x-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, Raman, Hall, Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscpoe. Other interests include dislocation in strained layer structures and investigation of the role of atomic hydrogen in moderating the growth of highly strained layers.
