Discovering Electronic Engineering at La Trobe
Our expertise covers the design and implementation of Electronic Circuits and Systems, which are used in all facets of our lives - from embedded control systems for dishwashers through photonic communications to biomedical equipment used in hospitals. Through quality teaching approaches, we produce highly employable graduates who go on to have rewarding and productive careers as engineers, and managers.
Industry driven, our teaching methods are based upon the principles of applications learning, where students are constantly required to apply their theory to real world examples.
Students are prized for this industry knowledge and virtually all have gained career roles upon their graduation.
Both international and local students comment on the accessibility of lecturers, relaxed nature of the department and emphasis on communication skills as influential factors in their success in the workplace. Interpersonal skills integral to the learning within our department lay a foundation for many of our Engineers who move into management roles.
The department actively encourages and supports women in Engineering and this is reflected in the heathly gender balance in the department.
The Department provides an excellent research environment for staff and postgraduate students. Our research spans both pure and applied research in a number of areas of electronic engineering. Research in the Department is supported by a number of research grants. Recent research has resulted in many publications in international journals and at international conferences and two patent applications. For more details see research and individual staff member's home pages.
