Industry Experience
It is a requirement of the Institution of Engineers, Australia that all students enrolled in any of the engineering degrees offered by the Department of Electronic Engineering at La Trobe University are required to complete at least 12 weeks (8 weeks in the case of the Bachelor of Technology course) of approved practical experience under the guidance of an experienced qualified engineer before being deemed to have completed the course. This industry experience is usually obtained during the vacation before the final year of the Engineering ( or technology) program.The steps for completing work experience are as follows:
Complete and return the Industry Experience Approval Form (PDF 26KB) and submit to the Department of Electronic Engineering for approval. A copy of the approved form will be forwarded to you for your own records. This ensures that work experience is of approved nature BEFORE the work is undertaken.
- Upon completion of your industry experience please complete the Industry Experience Report Form (PDF 30KB) and submit to the Department of Electronic Engineering along with the following documentation:
- A brief critical appraisal of your industry experience (approximately 500 words). Be sure to include the management structure of the company as well.
- A letter from your employer stating the dates you worked and outlining the tasks you have undertaken. This letter must be on company letterhead and we must sight the original document.
