School Work Experience Programs
The department of Electronic Engineering offers short term placement for secondary school students. In the hope to provide insight into the electronic and computer engineering industry. No prior knowledge is required in the area but a passion about what they want to achieve is helpful. The Students are primarily here to observe and learn and not to undertake activities which require extensive training or experience. But do end up leaving with a project which they build and construct themselves under the supervision of the departments technical staff.

My Work Experience here at La Trobe University has been fantastic. I decided to have my one week of work experience here as I already have a passion for electronics and technology in general and I saw La Trobe University as being the perfect place to learn great new things. By the creation of my own circuits, I have gained so much experience and learnt a lot in terms of the work force is such a great university. I particularly enjoyed the hands on experience and loved the tours of all the main IT rooms, in which I was completely blown away, especially with regards to the amount of data stored and the process in which is undertaken for it to be maintained safely. Overall I loved the entire week as a whole, and thanks to the staff here. I was able to have a fantastic new experience!

I had an amazing time this past week here at Latrobe Electronics Engineering. Working in the office, building intricate circuits, learning new skills for designing circuit boards, has all been an awesome experience. It’s given me great insight into what’s included in the course, and also shown me the practical aspects of electronics engineering. I also particularly enjoyed the tours given of the power station and data centre, and how the staff were so open to showing me these areas. Sitting through university lectures was also a fun as I got to experience what they were really like, and also gave me an example of the type of engineering that electronics is. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the week, and a huge thanks to the kind staff for being so generous and caring towards me.

I want to say thank you, I had a wonderful time at work experience here at Electronic Engineering. I had the bestest of all time and I really appreciate everything you've all done for me, sharing with me the great possibilities of engineering. I felt I have learnt more in these two short weeks than I would have done in a year at high school. I felt I was part of a big team. When I leave, I'll miss having my own desk, I'll miss the staff treatment of me as an adult with responsibility but most of all I will miss all of you.
If you would like to try engineering as a career and require Secondary School work experience placement (Year 10 or 11). Please contact the Department's Lab Manager for more information.
