BACKGROUND
Lloyd Holliday holds an Honours Degree in English Literature, a Teachers’ Diploma, a Masters Degree with distinction in Teaching English as a mother tongue, and a PhD awarded for research in second language acquisition. He has worked as an educator in South Africa, Saudi-Arabia, USA, Australia, South-East Asia and China. His wide ranging learning, work, and research experiences enable him to teach and supervise higher degree students across a wide variety of applied linguistics fields.
Lloyd has been responsible for coordinating the Master Degree Program in applied linguistics and the offshore programs in the School of Educational Studies since 1996.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
Lloyd has an especial interest in interaction in learning contexts and its affect on second language acquisition processes, computer mediated communication and learning, second and foreign language instruction and first language maintenance in mainstream and ethnic minority situations. He has taught courses in research methodology, second language acquisition theory, contextualizing language teaching, second/foreign language instruction, practical observations and language practice teaching, English grammar for teaching, bilingualism, and sociolinguistics.
Previous research has concentrated on the negotiation of meaning and the processes it generates which contribute to second language acquisition, using email lists for EFL/ESL practice, the nature of the discourse in the email messages of second language learners of English, the medium of instruction and mother tongue maintenance of ethnic minority students in Yunnan.
